Cleaveland was the original 1841 to 1887 spelling used for present-day Cleveland County. In 1887 the spelling was changed, and the modern spelling adopted.[1] The 1841-1887 records of the old-spelling Cleaveland County are now found in (modern-spelling) Cleveland County, North Carolina.
