Resources for Colorado Newspapers

The Western History Department of the Denver Public Libraryand the Colorado Historical Society have the most complete collections of Colorado newspapers. Both repositories have indexes to newspaper obituaries. The availability of newspapers is also described in Donald E. Oehlerts, Guide to Colorado Newspapers, 1859-1963 (Denver, Colorado: Bibliographical Center for Research, 1964; Family History Library book 978.8 B3o; film 1000145 item 4).

Through a joint effort of the Colorado State Library, the Colorado Historical Society, and generous donors in Colorado, newspapers published in the State from 1859 to 1923 have been digitized and are available online. The result is the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection.

NewspaperArchive.com ($) has a collection of digitized Colorado newspapers (mostly Colorado Springs and Greeley) online. This database is sometimes free at libraries. It may be under the name Access NewspaperArchive.
