Blackburn is a market town parish 30 miles south east of Lancaster and 24 miles north, northwest of Manchester.

The following township chapelries comprised Blackburn Parish boundaries and should be given earnest consideration when researching the records of this township and ancient parish. If your ancestor said or stated "Blackburn" as the parish of birth, they were likely correct! But in addition to searching Blackburn's ancient parish (*St Mary the Virgin), if an ancestor was not found St Mary's parish registers, then diligent searches must be made in all of the following chapelries which were connected with and comprised the whole of Blackburn Parish (according to their respective time in operation) should be searched as well:
