The Skovridere had responsibilities to manage the crowns interests in the forests. The Skovridere was responsible to arrest poachers and forest thieves, along with collect winter feed for the deer and see that the fences around the forest were in good condition. The Skovfoged worked under the Skovridere to see that the forest itself was taken care of. The Skovfoged with help of an assistant (the Skovløbere) would see that trees were not illegally cut down or removed, along with managing the needs of the forest. The Skovridere performed his duties from a horse. The Skovfoged and Skovløbere performed their duties on foot.
