Desert County, Utah was created 3 March 1852.[1] She extended from the shore of the Great Salt Lake on the east to the western edge of the Great Basin in California at first between Weber and Tooele counties. Desert County was reduced in size the current western Utah border by the creation of Saint Mary's County (now Nevada) on 5 January 1856.[2] Desert County was extinguished 17 January 1862 and her remaining land was split between Box Elder and Tooele counties.[1]
