History

Parent County

1634--Elizabeth City County was created in 1634 as an original shire or county. Elizabeth City was absorbed by Hampton in July 1952. [2]

During the War of 1812, American officials reported finding a total of 3 British aliens, some of whom had families, living in Hampton and Elizabeth City County.[4]
