Military Medals

Awards and decorations can aid in obtaining additional information on one's ancestral soldier. Each of the above ribbons, medals and clasps stand for specific campaigns and outstanding service to their country. By learning what those campaings are, one can narrow down the service time period and also locate the paperwork behind the award. That paperwork will show the regiment and service areas which can lead to locating additional information on that ancestor and their family.

The above medals were awarded for service during World War 1 (Western Front) and World War II (Burma Campaign) From left to right:

1) CBE Medal 2) WWI - 1914-15 Star 3) WWI British War Medal 4) WW1 Victory Medal 5) Indian General Service 1919-21 'clasp Waziristan' 6) Indian General Service 1936 'clasp North West Frontier' 7) WWII Burma Star 9) WWII Victory Medal 10) WWII South East Asia Medal.
