Sweden > FamilySearch Indexing: Swedish Church Records up to 1860

Welcome to FamilySearch Indexing of the Swedish Church Records!

There have been many efforts through the years to index the Swedish church records. Finally, we have the opportunity to create a centralized index using technology and tools in amazing ways. When the Swedish church records have been thoughly indexed, people will be able to find their Swedish ancestors unlike ever before.

On this page, you will find many tools to help you in the indexing process. If you have feedback to improve the page, please use the discussion tab at the top of this page. If you would like work with other indexers on the Swedish Projects see:

  • Request to join the Sweden Genealogy Research Community group in Skype

If you would like to participate to index the Swedish records see FamilySearch Indexing.

Record Types and Rules for Indexing

At present, FamilySearch Indexing is working on 3 types of church records. They are birth and chistenings, engagement and marriages, and death and burial records.

Sometimes the ministers book has divided sections for the different types, other times the 3 types could be mixed on the same page. Either way the indexing tool allows you to index each entry of a page according to the appropriate type.

In order to create a great index, FamilySearch needs every indexer to be consistent with the indexing rules. Please read through each section to learn what the rules are before indexing the Swedish church records.
