Index the name of the deceased first; then index all other names, each as a separate record, in the order they appear on the obituary or death notice. Click here for an example.
The instructions for similar obituary projects have said, "When indexing the names of parents, if two parents were listed, you can assume that the first parent listed was the father and the second one was the mother unless other evidence in the record indicates otherwise." Please do not make this assumption. If the gender of the parents are not otherwise indicated in the obituary, DO NOT assume the gender by the individuals' names or by the order in which they were listed; indexed the records instead as Parent in the Relationship field.
