Grandchildren: All of the following should be indexed as Grandchild in the Relative's Relationship to Deceased field: spouses of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their spouses, and step-grandchildren and their spouses. Click here for an example.
Index the name of the deceased first; then index all other names, each as a separate record, in the order they appear on the obituary or death notice. Click here for an example.
The instructions for similar obituary projects have said, "When indexing the names of parents, if two parents were listed, you can assume that the first parent listed was the father and the second one was the mother unless other evidence in the record indicates otherwise." Please do not make this assumption. If the gender of the parents are not otherwise indicated in the obituary, DO NOT assume the gender by the individuals' names or by the order in which they were listed; index the records instead with Parent in the Relative's Relationship to Deceased field.
When two newspapers are recorded on the same document, you should index the name of both newspapers in the order they appear. Click here for an example.
