Hint to edit this page (add a question or answer): The only way I found to be able to edit this page to add my question was to click the "View source" link on the right. Todd W - 28 Jan 2013
Q. Do we index the "LIST OR MANIFEST OF ALIENS EMPLOYED ON THE VESSEL AS MEMBERS OF CREW" documents? Both the PDF docs in the first and second links on the Project Updates page ( https://www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/images/8/8d/Passenger_How_To.pdf ) show an image of it, but they don't give instructions what to do with them. - A To answer my own question, I found this on the Project Instructions page at https://indexing.familysearch.org/projtab/viewProject.jsf?url=USNewYorkPassengerLists19251942PartA/ProjectHelp1.html: Index the names of passengers only. Do not index any other names, such as the names of the crew, ship owner, ...
Q. I have an image that is a Record of Aliens Held for Special Inquiry. Should this be indexed as a passenger list, or does this fall into the No Extractable Data category? Batch No. 236538685. Thx. Msvolga 22:36, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
Q, Msvolga, I came across the same thing today. My first batch was a Record of Aliens Held for Special Inquiry. Did you receive an answer about what you are supposed to do? mohhess 22:50, 16 September 2012 (MST)
- A. Mohhess, I have not yet received an answer on how to index this this particular batch. I have read in some other posts that these wiki pages may not yet be monitored by FSI, so it could be awhile before the question gets addressed. In the meantime, I may just return the batch to the server and get a new one. Msvolga 01:43, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- A. I found an answer to this question in the PDF docs in the first and second links on the Project Updates page (https://www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/images/8/8d/Passenger_How_To.pdf):
- The names of these passengers, who were detained after arrival, would typically appear on a normal passenger list and would be indexed with the image of that list. Do not index lists of detained
passengers. Todd W - 28 Jan 2013
Q: It says in the instructions that if both the nationality and the place of birth are given to index the place of birth. Does this mean we should index BOTH the city and country? Or should we still just index the country?
A. If you click on field helps and then click on the first help that says
"Click here for examples of how to index this field" it will bring
you to a PPT. Scoll down to the last example and it shows that
you only index the country.
Q: If the List has only American Passengers, what has to be indexed: only the state, or both state and city?
