Discussion Items

Technical Issues & Workarounds

  • Blocking users Warren Jones
Do you want a general discussion about this topic or do you have a specific question. There is a policy and a help page about blocking. --Steve 09:41, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Site Design

  • The wiki main page is being redesigned. Blair would like to receive the communities input on it. Let us setup a communication path with Diane Loosle or Ben Bennett to feed them your ideas. I think Janelle could help with this. Don 31 May 2011

  • When adding a the delete template to a page we would like to have deleted we need to make sure that the Watch checkbox is checked so that we can make sure that the request or the delete template isn't deleted and then the page is lost until it is found again. Warren Jones
  • Is it possible to have the "Watch this page" check box automatically checked when we are adding the delete template? Warren Jones
You can set a preference to watch all pages that you edit (Watchlist section), but I don't believe you can make it specific to a certain kind of edit. --Steve 09:45, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
  • When we add the delete template maybe we should protect the page so that someone cannot remove the delete template. What priviledges are needed to protect a Wiki Page? Warren Jones
Moderators and admins can protect a page and only admins can delete a page (see Special:ListGroupRights}. The {{delete}} template can be added any user to call it to the attention of the admins. Why protect the page if deletion is the right option? Only if the template was added and then removed without explanation, should the template be re-added by a moderator and then the page protected. Using the talk pages is always helpful. Protecting pages is more about protecting content. It is useful to prevent changes to pages/templates that would produce a high impact (ie the Main Page and templates like {{RecordSearch}} that are used on hundreds of pages). --Steve 10:01, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
