:I think as guidelines, this is pretty good. Something that might make this article more usable though is to focus on what a user page IS rather than what it ISN'T? And to turn it into a bulleted list for readability. Also, in the first section, I reworded the 2nd bullet and added the 3rd one, thoughts?

I think as guidelines, this is pretty good. Something that might make this article more usable though is to focus on what a user page IS rather than what it ISN'T? And to turn it into a bulleted list for readability. Also, in the first section, I reworded the 2nd bullet and added the 3rd one, thoughts?
I really like what you've done, Janell. Bulletized copy is easy to "digest" and you've got a nice balance between "do" and "don't" examples. Lise 01:33, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
You're saying here that user pages shouldn't contain, "blatant advertisements." Does this also hold true for professional genealogists? This page suggests that the practices below are appropriate use of user pages:
"Post your Professional Genealogy education (degree), Professional Genealogy competency-tested credentials, Professional Genealogy experience, Professional Genealogy (professionals-only membership) associations, Business License Compliance on your user page."
"Attach sub-pages to your user page which include featured services, examples of client reports, and customer testimonials, continuing education in professional genealogy."

FamilySearch Research Wiki provides user pages to facilitate communication among participants. A user page is a great place to:
  • Create a personal profile or introduction to yourself as a FamilySearch Research Wiki contributor
  • Highlight your efforts to contribute to Wiki projects (a location to keep helpful hints, or what you last contributed)
  • Tell other users how best to communicate with you
Topics to avoid on your user page:
  • FamilySearch Research Wiki is not a general hosting service, so your user page is not a personal website.
  • In addition, there is broad agreement that you may not include in your user space material that is likely to bring the project into disrepute. e.g. blatant advertisements or lengthy blogs are inappropriate.
  • Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to FamilySearch Research Wiki.
