Germans from Russia > Biography
A biography is a history of a person's life. In a biography you may find the individual's birth, marriage, and death information, and the names of his parents, children, or other family members. Use the information carefully because there may be inaccuracies.
Only a few Germans from Russia were the subject of biographies. There are few biographical sources for Germans from Russia and most that exist include only the most notable citizens. Others feature biographies of specific groups of people, such as physicians:
Deutsches Ausland-Institut (Stuttgart). Biographisches Register der deutschen Ärzte in Russland bis etwa 1914 (Biographical Register of German Physicians in Russia to about 1914). Salt Lake City: Genealogical Society of Utah, 1988. (FHL film 1568875 item 2). Short handwritten biographies in alphabetical order. Only includes surnames beginning with A-L.
A significant biographical encyclopedia is:
Welding, Olaf. Deutschbaltisches biographisches Lexikon 1710-1960 (German-Baltic Biographical Encyclopedia). Köln, Wien: Böhlau Verlag, 1970. (FHL book 947.4 D3w)
You may also find a few biographical sketches of Germans from Russia in the material cited in the “Biography” sections of the Germany Research Outline (34061), Canada Research Outline (34545), United States Research Outline (30972) or the research outline of the province or state where an immigrant settled.
