Parish History

GUMLEY (St. Helen), a parish, in the union of Harborough, hundred of Gartree, S. division of the county of Leicester, 4½ miles (N. W. by W.) from Harborough. [1]

In 1870-72,John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Gumley like this: GUMLEY, a parish in Market Harborough district, Leicester; near the Union Canal, 4 miles N of Theddingworth r. station, and 4½ NW by N of Market Harborough.
