This page is under construction

North Dakota was created in 1889, from Dakota Territory. In 1893 law requiring registration of births, this law was repealed then reenacted in 1899. North Dakota, generally complied by 1923. The clerk of the district court in the counties have copies of these records.

Finding North Dakota Marriage Records

  • 1805 Michigan laws required counties to record marriages
  • 1 April 1867, the county clerk began to forward marriage records to the secretary of state
  • An additional 1905 law resulted in greater statewide compliance
  • North Dakota marriage records are not restricted and can be ordered by anyone during any time period
