History in the United States 

The Huguenot Church began in France and eventually faced fierce persecution there. The Huguenots were expelled from France in 1685 and moved to other countries, including the United States, Germany, and England. Many left before 1685. Often Huguenot families would settle in one country, then move to another.

In what is now the United States, Huguenots settled in:

  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
