Question #1: Why does this collection indicate that it has images but when you try to view the records from any parish you receive the message “Image not Available”?
Answer #1: While there are no instructions to do so, all you have to do is sign in to view the images. FamilySearch has limited rights, granted by the record custodians, to publish images from the Illinois, Chicago, Catholic Church Records collection for viewing online. If you do not have an account, simply click on Sign In in the upper right corner of any page in FamilySearch and follow the instructions for creating a free account.
Question #2: I am trying to locate records for the Assumption BVM Parish in South Marshfield. Can you tell me if you have any of those records?
Answer #2: The folders listed below have been incorrectly located in the browse point Assumption BVM Parish (Chicago: 123rd St). They are from the Assumption BVM Parish in South Marshfield.
- Baptisms 1889-1910
- Baptisms 1910-1914
- Baptisms 1914-1916
- Deaths 1906-1915
- Marriages 1901-1918
Question #3: Some pages are covered with an overlay preventing the user from viewing the records. Can this be corrected?
Answer #3: When an image is covered with an overlay, move forward to the next image to view a copy of the image without the overlay.
Occasionally the image was not refilmed and so is not available for viewing. Holy Family Parish (North Chicago) > Marriages 1857-1916 > Image 234 is an example.
Question #4: Can you tell me where the records for the older Holy Family Parish in Chicago proper are located?
Answer #4: There are two parishes that share the name Holy Family Parish – one in Chicago proper and one in North Chicago. The records of both are currently located in the browse point Holy Family Parish (North Chicago). Below is a list of which browse points should be located in each parish.

Question #5: Can you tell me where to find records for the Old St. Mary’s Parish? I am looking for records before 1859.
Answer #5: There are two parishes in this collection that make a reference to the Old St Mary Parish -- St Mary Parish (Chicago, Old, Michigan Ave) and St Mary of the Assumption Parish (Chicago: Old, Wabash). The catalog identifies the St Mary of the Assumption Parish records as “Microfilm of originals of records for the Old St. Mary's Church in Chicago, Illinois.” This Parish has records dating to 1833. You may want to search both of these parishes for Old St Mary records.
Question #6: Are there any additional records for St Casimir Parish (Chicago Heights)?
Answer #6: The records in the browse point St Casimir Parish (Chicago: S Whipple St) > Baptisms 1923-1957 have been located incorrectly. They are records for St Casimir Parish (Chicago Heights).
Question #7: I am looking for records from the Ss Peter & Paul Parish located on 12433 S. Halsted St. Do you have any records for that parish?
Answer #7: The records in the browse pointsSs Peter and Paul Parish (Chicago:Paulina St) Baptisms 1914-1916, Deaths 1914-1915, and Marriage 1914-1916 are probably from the Halsted St. Parish. The addresses match that parish area, though the title for the records is simply Ss Peter and Paul Parish.
Question #8: I am looking for records from the parish St. Nicholas (German). Is it possible you have these?
Answer #8: The records in the browse point St. Nicholas of Tolentine could possibly be images from St. Nicholas (German). Patrons looking for those images should check this browse point.
Question #9: What are the correct date ranges for the following St. Patrick (Chicago) parish links?

Answer #10: Occasionally pages are missed in the original filming of the records. This appears to be the case here. It is not available for viewing either online or through ordering the microfilm.
Question #11: When searchingSt. Stanislaus Kostka (Chicago) marriages, 1869-1889 I find that the marriage records end with records from 1882. Are records from other years available?
Answer #11: The dates for St. Stanislaus Kostka (Chicago) should be marriages, 1869-1882. There are multiple links to records of Marriages for the years 1869-1915 with the exception of the years 1884-188.
Question # 12: Some of the record sets found at St Jarlath Parish (Chicago: Jackson Blvd) appear to have records different from the browse point description. Is there a list of the correct browse point descriptions?
Answer #12: Following is a list of the known discrepancies in the browse point names.
*St Jarlath Parish (Chicago: Jackson Blvd) > Communion and confirmation index 1925-1943 should read St Jarlath Parish (Chicago: Jackson Blvd) > Baptism Index 1925-1930.
