Inheriting LandEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
People could inherit land from other people, usually a close relative. A deed was not required for this land transfer, but a few deeds were made. If a person sold land and there is not deed showing that he bought that land, this may be a clue to a possible inheritance. If the person inheriting the land was a minor (generally under the age of 16), that person's guardian might also be named in the deed.
To find records of land inheritances, check probate records as well as land records for the names of relatives from whom the land may have been inherited.
