Search the FamilySearch Catalog

Find a complete list of records available through FamilySearch is the FamilySearch Catalog where you may search the data eight different ways. The "Keyword" search often proves to be a very effective option.

Try the "Place Search" and enter the county where your ancestor lived in the first field and Italy in the bottom field to see a list of the various topics available. You should also search for the church and county where your ancestor lived using the "Place Search".

FamilySearch Collection Statistics for Italy (11 September 2008)

  • 85,000+ microfilms
  • 3,000+ microfiche
  • 1200 books
  • ? electronic resources
  • 300 maps
  • 5 atlases
  • 7 million digital images (not yet on-line)

Filming in Italy began full-time around 1966-1967, although some microfilms had been done in the Piemonte area (Waldensian records) in 1948.
