The records in this collection are from the 1975 census.
How to Use the Record
These records are avaible online for free at FamilySearch.com. One may access this collection for free by clicking on the link at the top of this article. The records in this collection have be divided up by departement, sub-prefecture, and city or town.
Census information is kept on forms in French. There is a multi-page form for each household. All members of the household are recorded. The first page contains the location information, such as prefecture, sub-distract, city, and address. The next two pages contain the census form and the information gathered about the household.
The key genealogical facts found in Census forms may contain the following information:
- Relationship to head of household
- Birth date
- State of marriage (divorced, widow, etc.)
- Highest education completed
- Occupation, including profession and level in that profession
The Côte d'Ivoire gained its independance in 1960. The country would hold its first national census in 1975.
Why the Record Was Created
Censuses are created to ennumerate the population and provide demographic information about the people living in an area.
Records were created to cover the entire country although some records have been lost or destroyed.
