Record Description

This Collection will include records for 1975.

Census information is kept on forms in French. There is a multi-page form for each household. All members of the household are recorded. The first page contains the location information, such as prefecture, sub-district, city, and address. The next two pages contain the census form and the information gathered about the household.

The records in this collection are from the 1975 census.

These records are avaible online for free at FamilySearch.org. One may access this collection for free by clicking on the link at the top of this article. The records in this collection have be divided up by departement, sub-prefecture, and city or town. 

The Côte d'Ivoire gained its independence in 1960. The country would hold its first national census in 1975.

Records were created to cover the entire country although some records have been lost or destroyed.

The key genealogical facts found in Census forms may contain the following information:
  • Name
  • Relationship to head of household
  • Date and place of birth
  • Gender
  • Civil status (married, divorced, widow, etc.)
  • Nationality
  • Religion
  • Highest level of education completed
  • Occupation or profession and level in that profession

Censuses are created to enumerate the population and provide demographic information about the people living in an area.

Beginning Your Search

To begin your search, it would be helpful if you know the following information:

  • Name of your ancestor
  • Approximate birth date
  • Birth place

Searching the Images

To search the collection you will need to follow this series of links:
⇒Select the "Browse" link in the initial search page
⇒Select the "Department" category
⇒Select the "Sub-prefecture" category
⇒Select the "City - Village" category which will take you to the images.

Look at each image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.
