Probate records of Jæren include the following clerical districts:

  • Høle
  • Høyland
  • Håland
  • Klepp
  • Lye (Time)
  • Ogna
  • Stavanger City

Probates contain dates, names of deceased, heirs, guardians and trustees, inventory lists, land and holdings, and other miscellaneous information.


Probate records for 1823-1896 in Jæren judicial district are available at the Family History Library.

Clerical probate records are available 1763-1821 for Jæren Deanery at the Family History Library.

Early probate records for clergy, school teachers, and military officers were often separated from the regular probate records. Church officials conducted probate proceedings for priests or schoolteachers, commanding officers for military officers. After 1812 a probate judge conducted these probates along with all other probates.
