Karnes County was created and organized 4 Febrary 1854 from Bexar, DeWitt, Goliad, and San Patricio counties. Courthouse and most records of the county clerk were destroyed by fire in July 1865. County seat: Helena (1854-1894); Karnes City (1894-present).
