History

Parent County

1825--Lee County was created from Indian lands ceded to the U.S.in 1825. It was abolished in 1826 due to treaty problems and recreated 11 Dec. 1826 from lands ceded in 1826.
County seat:  Leesburg [1]

Boundary Changes

Record Loss

1858--The courthouse in Starkville burned with all of the county records. Another fire in 1872 destroyed the temporary courthouse in Leesburg.
