LONGSIGHT, a chapelry in Manchester parish, Lancashire; on the Manchester and Stockport railway, 2 miles SW of Manchester. It was constituted in 1854. The church was repaired in 1869, and is excellent. A Wesleyan chapel was built in 1869.
By 1885 there were three chapelries serving this township--all attached to and standing within the ancient parish of Manchester (Cathedral), Our Lady, St George and St Denys.
Birth, marriages and deaths were kept by the government, from July 1837 to the present day. The civil registration article tells more about these records. There are several Internet sites with name lists or indexes. A popular site is FreeBMD.
