Record Description

This Collection will include records from 1662 to 1941.

The events are recorded either in French or German totally by hand or in partially pre-printed books where the information is then entered by hand. The name of a child not registered when born will not be given in the death record, but the gender of that child will be. If the child was stillborn it will state that, although sometimes this term was applied to children who died shortly after birth.

Record Content

A birth record may provide the following information:

  • Name of child
  • Gender of child
  • Date and place of birth
  • Name of parents
  • Parents age and occupation
  • Names of witnesses

A marriage record may provide the following information:

  • Date and place of marriage
  • Name of groom
  • Groom's birth date
  • Current residence
  • Names of groom's parents
  • Name of bride
  • Bride's birth date
  • Current residence
  • Names of bride's parents
  • Names of witnesses


A death record may provide the following information:

  • Name and age of deceased
  • Day and hour of death
  • Birthplace of the deceased
  • Occupation of deceased
  • Current residence
  • Name of the spouse (when applicable)
  • Witnesses may be members of the family

How to Use the Records

Search the Collection

To search the collection image by image select "Browse through images" on the initial collection page
⇒ Select the appropriate "City or Town"
⇒ Select the appropriate "Record Type and Years" which takes you to the images

Search the collection by image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.
