Chapelry History

Lydgate St Anne was created as a chapel of ease by the year 1788 from, and lying within the boundaries of Rochdale St Chad, Lancashire Ancient parish and was part of the Ashton under Lyne rural deanery of the Diocese of Manchester one of the Saddleworth parishes which form part of modern Metropolitan Borough of Oldham Lancashire.

"LYDGATE, an ecclesiastical district [created in the year 1788], in the parochial chapelry of Saddleworth,parish of Rochdale [as of 1848], Upper division of the wapentake of Agbrigg, W. riding of York, 3 miles north by northeast of Oldham, and 9 miles northeast from Manchester. The chapel, erected by subscription in 1788, was dedicated to St. Ann."[1]
