"Northern or Outer Mongolia declared independence from China in 1911 and became a Marxist Socialist state in 1921. In order to clarify the identity of each household there was a government regulation that each person had to put their father's name in front of their own name as a patronymic. For instance, Lobsangchoijuriin Sechin, Schinii Bat, and Btiin Amar. In addition, family names were maintained and officially recorded."
