Maine's mega-plantations were disbanded in 1859 and split into their constituent parts such as the now much smaller Moose River Plantation. From this land (T4 R2) many townships and plantations have since been organized and abolished in 1893, 1895, and 1903. The modern, smaller version of Moose River was incorporated as a town in 1957.[5]
