Brief History

Moose River was organized from Township 4, Second Range North of Bingham's Kennebec Purchase (T4 R2 NBKP) (also known as Holdentown, and Holden Plantation) as a plantation for election purposes, together with Sandy River Township and T4 R1 NBKP (now Jackman) in 1852. It was reorganized in 1859 as just Moose River Plantation for election purposes. Many townships/plantations have since been organized and abolished in 1893, 1895, and 1903. Moose River was incorporated as a town in 1957.[1]
