Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are encouraged to submit information about their deceased family members in order to provide temple ordinances for them. For an explanation of this belief see Temples and Family History.

If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, your ward family history consultant or a staff member at a family history center can assist you. A website called New FamilySearch is available to you on your home computer via the internet and also at family history centers. It greatly simplifies the process of submitting names to the temple. You can enter names and other genealogical data directly onto the website. When you are reasonably certain about the information, you can print out a Family Ordinance Request (FOR) on your home printer. Take the FOR to the family file department at the temple. There, the temple workers, using your FOR, will print out the pink, blue, and tan ordinances cards, which you utilize at the temple to perform sacred ordinances in behalf of your deceased ancestors.

When the temple ordinances are completed for your ancestor, that information will appear in your ancestor's record on New FamilySearch. It may also be added to the International Genealogical Index at the older FamilySearch website. New FamilySearch's central file of completed temple ordinances helps limit duplication of research and ordinances by allowing researchers to know what work has already been done. It is an excellent way to share the results of your research.
