Known Issues

Question #1: Why does the browse section for New York, Probate Records, 1629-1971, Chautauqua list a number of records for Wills when many of them are Probate records?
Answer #1: The Chautauqua Wills Section has some records mislabeled as Wills when they are actually records of Probates of Wills. The problem has been reported and should be rectified in a future rework of the collection. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Question #2: Where are the records from Dower, Madison County?
Answer #2: The records from Dower were mistakenly placed in Monroe County. You will find them listed in the file titled: Monroe, Dower Records 1830-1880.

Question #3: The images for Saratoga Wills for 1888-1890 are light. Is there a way to improve the legibility of these images?
Answer #3: When you find that images are too light, it sometimes helps to view the negative of the image. This is done by clicking on the word ‘Invert” found on the dark gray bar just above the image. In addition, clicking on the + by the word Zoom, found in that same dark gray bar, can enlarge the image and make it more legible.
