The Vital Record Index databases are not necessarily intended to index any specific set of records although some sub-indexes (an index to a set of records within the database) have been found. When we identify a sub-index, we remove it from the database and post it separately on FamilySearch under its appropriate title.

For over 30 years, volunteer indexers extracted this information from microfilm copies of the original records. === Why This Record Was Created  ===
+
As an alternative to ordering a microfilm from the Catalog, you can search the digitized parish registers at the following link: [http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read] . Be sure to click on English (or the language of choice) from the blue bar at the top. Since Batch B04838-7 is for burials from Botne, Vestfold, Norway, on the blue leftside dropdown menu, select the appropriate county (Vestfold), parish (Botne), type of register (Parish register (official)).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsored the indexing of this collection to help individuals find information about their ancestors.
+
For example: if you were searching for Otto Christian Hansen (fictitious name) died on 2 December 1871 and buried on 11 December 1871, then you would choose the year range from the parish register results (i.e., Botne: 1836-1877, Parish register (official)). From the next screen, select the Type of record (Death and burial records) and the specific year (1971 (422)).&nbsp;Otto Christian Hansen would be listed on page 425 in the original register.<br>

+
=== Record Reliability  ===
+

+
Church records and civil registration were official records and are some of the most reliable sources of information available for those who were born, married, or died in Norway.
