Płużnica Wielka is the birthplace of Father Leopold Moczygemba who is known as the Father of American Polonia.  He led many of his family and friends from this village and other Silesian villages to Panna Maria, Texas.  Panna Maria is said to be the first permanent Polish settlement in America.  Płużnica Wielka has a Catholic parish and many records can be found in the Family History Library collection on microfilm.  Other records, such as confirmation records can still be found in the local parish in Poland.
