Real County has been home to two courthouses.  A temporary courthouse was erected on the town square in 1913 after Real County was organized.  In 1917 construction began on the current Real County Courthouse.  The Ransom Courthouse Annex was opened in 1978, housing some of the county's government functions. [2]

History

Comanche, Apache and Lipan-Apache settlements preceded the establishment of the Spanish Mission of San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz in 1762. Anglo-American settlement began in 1857.

Real County is named for Julius Real (1860-1944), a former member of the Texas State Senate.

After land was transferred to private ownership, subsequent transactions, including deeds and mortgages, have been recorded by the county. You can obtain copies of these land records by writing to the county clerk at the county courthouse. For more information, see Texas Land and Property.

Probate records of Texas have been kept by the probate clerk in each county courthouse. You can obtain copies of the records from the clerk's office. In most counties, all information pertaining to a probate case is recorded in the "probate minutes."
