Chapelry History

RUSLAND, a district chapelry, in the parish of Coulton, union of Ulverston, hundred of Lonsdale north of the Sands, N. division of the county of Lancaster, 8½ miles north by northeast of Ulverston. [1]

Rusland St Paul was created a chapel of ease by 1745 from, and lying within the boundaries of Coulton or Colton Ecclesiastical Parish. Rusland since 1974 has been in Cumbria following adminstrative boundary changes historically it was in Lancashire.
