This collection includes images of family lists for the tax-paying population (about 95% of the population) conducted primarily in the years 1782, 1795, 1811, 1816, 1833-1834, 1850-1851, and 1857-1858. Some outlying years are included. The localities included in this collection reflect the names of places that existed during the period of the Russian Empire since the records were created at that time. The records are in Russian.
These poll tax census records may contain the following information:
- Name of head of household
- Names of household members
- Age of head of household
- Ages of household members
- Household members’ relationship to the head of household
How to Use the Record
To search the collection you will need to follow this series of links:
To search the collection image by image
⇒Select "Browse through images" on the initial collection page.
⇒Select the appropriate "Province"
⇒Select the appropriate "District"
⇒Select the appropriate "Place"
⇒Select the appropriate "Years/Volume" which takes you to the images.
Search the collection by image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine if the image relates to them. You may need to look at several images and compare the information about the individuals listed in those images to your ancestors to make this determination. Keep in mind: There may be more than one person in the records with the same name. You may not be sure of your own ancestor’s name. Your ancestor may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life.
As you are searching it is helpful to know such information as your ancestor’s given name and surname, some identifying information such as residence and age, and family relationships. Remember that there may be more than one person in the records with the same name as your ancestor and that your ancestor may have used nicknames or different names at different times.
