Satterthwaite All Saints was created a chapel of ease by 1675 from, and lying within the boundaries of Hawkshead, Lancashire Ancient Parish.
Satterthwaite is a village situated in Grizedale, a valley in the Lake District, England, about four miles south of Hawkshead. Since 1974 it has been adminsitratively within Cumbria but was historically in Lancashire. The modern parish is in the Diocese of Carlisle.
The early chapel of ease was rebuilt about 1675, with the support of Daniel Rawlinson, a London vintner and former pupil of Hawkshead Grammar School. His family lived at Old Grizedale Hall.
The first church in Satterthwaite was built in 1837 by Montague Ainslie. Early English in style, it had a narrow, square tower with a single bell, and a gallery at the west end.
"SATTERTHWAITE,a chapelry, in the parish of Hawkshead, union of Ulverston, hundred of Lonsdale north of the Sands, N. division of the county of Lancaster, 4 miles south by west of Hawkshead." This chapel was erected by the year 1766 and was repaired and enlarged in 1837.
Birth, marriages and deaths were kept by the government, from July 1837 to the present day. The civil registration article tells more about these records. There are several Internet sites with name lists or indexes. A popular site is FreeBMD.
