Civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths began in Scotland in 1855. Events were registered with appointed district registrars. Every civil district in Scotland had a number assigned to it for the purpose of organizing and accessing records at the National Archives in Edinburgh and other repositories. You may view the list of civil registration districts and their numbers arranged by:
- district name
- county name
The years of existance of a district are assumed to be 1855-1955 unless otherwise given in the lists. Many districts continued to exist post-1955.
