  • Civil registration was first instituted in Vojvodina in 1895 when it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
  • Elsewhere in Serbia & Montenegro, it was instituted in 1946. Civil registration offices are under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, separate from the archive system.
