Chapelry History

Singleton was created a chapel of ease by 1754 from, and lying within the boundaries of Kirkham Ancient Parish.

Other places in the parish include: Great Singleton, Pool Foot, and Little Singleton. The parish was from 1847 in the Amounderness deanery of the Diocese of Manchester.

The Diocese of Blackburn is a Church of England diocese, covering much of Lancashire, created in 1926 from part of the Diocese of Manchester. The Diocese includes the towns of Blackburn, Blackpool, Burnley, and the cities of Lancaster, and Preston, as well as a large part of the Ribble Valley.

Singleton's parish church is St Anne's, designed by Lancaster architect Edward Graham Paley and completed in 1861. It has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage

"SINGLETON-in-the-Fylde, a chapelry,in the parish of Kirkham, union of the Fylde, hundred of Amounderness, N. division of Lancashire, 3 miles east by south of Poulton; consisting of Great and Little Singleton. The chapel, dedicated to St. Anne, was built in 1841.  There is a Roman Catholic chapel."[1]
