South Africa > Emigration and Immigration > South African Settlers

The South African Settlers website is a free resource which includes settlers who came from the British Isles to South Africa during the 19th century, particularly those who came in 1820. It includes a few who arrived before and after that year. It is not complete, but is an ongoing endeavor that will continue for years and is continually being updated with more information.

The "settlers index' on the site has been compiled from the Settler files at the Albany Museum and Cory Library in Grahamstown, South Africa; South African Death Notices (DN); Colonial Office papers (CO); and the International Genealogical Index (IGI).

The main objective of this site is to try and establish a date and place of an event before the
settlers left the British Isles, thus providing a starting place for family research in local British
repositories.
