The following record examples from this collection need English translations. Please help us by placing a translation of the record example on the talk page.

Citizenship records usually contain the following information:

Switzerland, Basel City, Local Citizenship Requests DGS 4728572 329 Citezenship request.jpg
  • Name of person requesting citizenship
  • Place of origin or residence
  • Sometimes his/her occupation
  • Comments and further explanations regarding the citizenship requests

How to Use the Record

To search the collections:
⇒Select the "Browse" link in the initial search page
⇒Select the "Band or Index" category which takes you to the images

Look at each image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine which one is your ancestor. You may need to compare the information about more than one person to make this determination.

The most important information one can take from this record is the place of origin of the immigrant, but it is first necessary to know the place where the person requested his/her citizenship and when he or she did so.
