A useful periodical for Swiss Heraldry  is Genealogisch-Heraldischen Gesellschaft Bern Mitteilungsblatt and is available at the Family History Library.  The call number is 949.452 B2m.  it is a bi-annual publication.

In Switzerland, having a coat of arms did not necessarily mean that you were of the noble class.  It was very common for most citizens to have their own coat of arms regardless of the class.  Here a website for the Canton of Basel with many family coats of arms. Basel coat of arms
