Question: Incorrect image is displayed for the detail record.
Answer: The correct image can be found by using the "Certificate Number" in the detail record of the individual. When the image appears, scroll forward or backward to find the correct certificate number.
Question: Certificates are missing from the collection.
Answer: Some were never indexed, but are on microfilm.
Some images (the first of each film) have missing information. (The title board was placed on top of the record).
The records in the Texas Death Index were indexed by the Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics. It is an online index only, with no images. The records are provided by the Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics, in partnership with FamilySearch. All correction requests should be addressed directly to their Web site at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/vs/default.shtm
Question#1: Why are there two Texas Deaths collections with the same years?
Answer #1: The entire collection has been reworked. This means that the records were re-filmed, re-indexed, and re-linked. Several thousand new records were found and those have been indexed and linked to images as well. The new browse is organized by record type, date and certificate number. This should be much more helpful than the DGS browse provided earlier. The new collection is titled Texas Deaths (New Index, New Images), 1890-1976 - the old collection is simply titled Texas Deaths, 1890-1976. Both collections have been left online temporarily to allow patrons and support staff to transition from one collection to another. We appreciate the patrons who provided feedback and helped to make this endeavor possible. We hope you will enjoy the much improved images and newly indexed records.
Question #2: When browsing 1940 Death Certificates, Volume 4, Certificates 001501-002000 is missing. Is this volume available?
Answer #2: 1940, Certificates 001501-002000, Davis to Edwards County are missing. FamilySearch does not have a copy of these certificates.
