Brief History

The town of Tinmouth was chartered on Sept. 15, 1761, and organized on March 3, 1774. Tinmouth served as the county seat or shire town of Rutland County and the courts and public business were conducted here from 1781 to 1784. Eventually, the county seat shifted to Rutland.

The first U.S. census shows that the town had a population of 935. The 20100 U.S. Census indicates that Tinmouth had a population of 613.[1]
