Tracing Immigrant Origins Gotoarrow.png Country of Origin Gotoarrow.png Record Types

When using records from the native country, the following record types are generally the most valuable for finding an emigrant's hometown. These record types are the same as the topics used in the Place Search of the FamilySearch Catalog.

Hamburg-St. Pauli port about 1900. From 1850 to 1934 police recorded information about millions of European emigrants departing from this port in Hamburg, Germany.
