1880--Most government document sections of public and university libraries have them.

Historical Background

1850, 1860, 1870-- Statistics were gathered concerning a specific geographic area within a county. These schedules do not provide information about specific individuals, only statistical data.

Content

1850-1870--for each political subdivision, these schedules show:

                        Value of real estate

                        Annual taxes
                        Cemetery facilities within city boundaries, including maps

                        Number of schools, teachers, and pupils

                        Number and type of libraries and the number of volumes they have

                        Name, type, and circulation of newspapers

                        Types of church denominations, the number of people each church can seat, and the value of their property

                        Number of native and foreign-born paupers and the cost of supporting them

                        Number of native and foreign-born criminals convicted and in prison

                        Average wages paid to farm hands, day laborers, carpenters, and female domestics.

                        Provides information about the ancestor's community
