Chapelry History

UNSWORTH, a hamlet with an ancient chapel of ease, in the township of Pilkington, in the parish of Prestwich cum Oldham, hundred of Salford, S. division of Lancashire, 3 miles south by southeast of Bury. Unsworth is the head of a chapelry, of much larger extent than the hamlet, and which includes part of the parish of Middleton. The chapel, dedicated to St. George, was consecrated in Nov. 1730. There are places of worship for dissenters.[1] Unsworth was created a chapel of ease in 1730 from, and lying within the boundaries of Prestwich St Mary, Lancashire.
